Saints kicked off the new season with a fine win over last season's runners up Crichton.
With the game starting with a high tempo Saints nearly opened the scoring when a Stevie Brown cross was met by Raymond Gordon who saw his left foot volley smash off the upright. After some fine work again by Stevie Brown his crossing nearly opened the scoring when Craig Rudd got onto the end of one only to see the 'keeper save it off the line. Crichton could've opened the scoring when Darren Johnstone got on the end of a long by but saw his lobbed effort finely saved by Saints keeper Shaun Hutchison.
With the second half starting as brightly as the first Crichton nearly found the opener when Darren Johnstone found space to turn only to see his volley saved by Shaun Hutchison once again. It was Saints who broke the deadlock on 70minutes after Gary McClymont ran onto a cross at the back post and dinked the ball over the oncoming Crichton 'keeper to make it 1-0. Crichton pressed to find an equaliser but Saints keeper Hutchison denied Crichton striker Kennedy when he tipped his header over the bar. Saints held on to the 1-0 victory to start the campaign off brightly. |
